Obituary of Katharina Wack

With heavy hearts the family of Katharina Wack (née Sauer) announces her peaceful passing on June 3, 2020 at McCormick Home, London in her 101st year. Our beloved Mother and Oma was born in Schowe, in the former Yugolsalvia, on December 2nd, 1919 and immigrated to Canada along with her husband Peter Wack (predeceased May 1986) and daughter Hella in 1952 where through hard work and commitment to family, created a wonderful life. Katharina will be greatly missed by her daughter Hella (Ron) Swain and grandchildren; Ron Jr (Ruthanne) Swain, Linda Pera and Kim Riordon. She will be remembered by her great grandchildren; Ronnie III (Jen), Branden (Samantha), Christopher (Sarah), Kevin, Danielle (Matt), Tristan (Chris), Taylor (Keisha) and great- great grandchildren; RJ, Harlow, Olivia, Ryleigh, Kyla, Taya, Leah and great- great extended grandchildren; Ciara, Taylor, Preston and Delilah. Katharina worked for many years as a dress maker, housekeeper and at the West Lorne shoe factory. She kept a large garden, growing all kinds of vegetables and had a beautiful flower garden that adorned the front of the house in West Lorne. Her meals and baking were delicious recipes from her Schwabian homeland. Everything was made to perfection. One of her best roles was that of Oma and we were most privileged to be her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ron Jr, Linda and Kim; the twins, enjoyed many childhood years being cared for by Oma and being by her side as she baked and cooked. During her years at McCormick Home, Sunday visits were enjoyed by Linda and Kim with Kyla and Taya in tow where great shenanigans ensued. Oma had many a hair-do created by Kyla and much art work was created by both littles as well as many hallway wheelchair rides. Oma was most happy when the grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren visited even though we always made too much noise! A private family Graveside Service and interment will be held on Monday, June 8th at Evergreen Cemetery, West Lorne with a Memorial Service to be held at a later date where family and friends can share fond memories. Condolences can be expressed at www.westelginfuneralhome.com. Memorial donations are appreciated by the family and can be made online at www.mccormickcaregroup.ca/info-centre/donate/ Heartfelt thanks and appreciation to McCormick Home Staff for their compassion and care. Arrangements entrusted to Denning’s of West Lorne (519-785-0810).
