Obituary of Roy Ross

Peacefully, at the Bobier Villa, Dutton, on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, Roy Elgin Ross, formerly of West Lorne, passed away at the age of 91.  Born in Aldborough Township on March 1, 1926 to the late Harold Ross and Ida (née Van Loon).  Beloved husband of Mary Ross (née Heinstein) with whom he recently celebrated 66 years of marriage.  Loving father of David (Joanne) Ross of Cambridge and Carl (Rhonda) Ross of Hastings.  Cherished grandfather of Michael (Clare) Ross, Tina (Steve) Langdon and Lindsay Ross (Dave Young), Tara (Ian) Lilley, Dean Ross, Matt Ross and Bridget (Dave) Kalinouskas and great-grandfather of Cassandra, Caden, Bruce, Trent, Grace and Katelyn.  Survived by his siblings Lila Walker of London, Percy (Diane) Ross of Dutton and sister-in-law Mildred Ross of Wardsville.  Survived also by many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his siblings and their spouses; Art (Jean) Ross, Allan (Ruby) Ross, Donald Ross, Jack Ross and Eileen (Jess) Kozdras.  Roy was a commercial fisherman on Lake Erie among his vessels; “Vito”, “Karen G.”, “Andave H.” and “Merri Gale II”.  Roy had the “Merri Gale II” built.  It was the largest fishing vessel on the Great Lakes.  After 34 years, he anchored his vessel and was employed with Rockwell in Tilbury until he retired in 1991.  Roy was known in West Lorne for his large vegetable garden in which he took much pride in keeping.  With Mary, he also enjoyed golfing, camping, spending over twenty winters at the trailer park in Florida and travelling the globe.  Relatives and friends will be received at DENNING’S OF RODNEY, 212 Furnival Road, Rodney (519-785-0810) on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 1 -3 p.m.  The Funeral Service will follow at 3 p.m.  Cremation to follow.  Interment of ashes in Rodney Cemetery on a later date.  Donations payable by cheque to Bobier Villa Recreation, West Lorne Baptist Church or Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.  www.denning.ca
