Obituary of Johanna Schaeken

Peacefully, on Friday, June 29, 2018, at Strathmere Lodge in Strathroy, Johanna Maria Schaeken (née Vink), formerly of West Lorne, passed away at the age of 90.  Loving wife of the late Herman (Henry) Schaeken (1994).  Beloved mother of John (Annie) of Newbury, Thea of London, Margaret (Louie) of Ottawa, Sandra (Kizito) of Kanata and Susan (Alex) of Glencoe.  Predeceased by her beloved daughter Mary-Ann (2000).  Loving grandmother of Michael (Beatrice), Michele, Leanne (Troy), Kevin, Charlotte, Melody, Temujin, Viviana (Tery), Joseph, Peter, James, Genevieve, and Thomas.  Proud great-grandmother of Isaac, Naomi and Sarah.  Dear sister of the late John Vink (Wardsville), the late Theo Vink (Kirkton), and the late Gijs Vink (Kerkdriel), Beloved sister-in-law of Corrie, Liza, Annie, Mien, Daan, and Chris. She will be sadly missed by sisters, Drina Gremie, Mariet Schaeken, Cilia van den Broek, and brother Jan Vink, all of the Netherlands, as well as numerous nephews and nieces, both here and abroad.  Born on February 5, 1928 in Beesd, the Netherlands, Johanna inherited a sense of humour and determination that was put to good use when she immigrated with Herman to Canada in 1952.  Johanna was past president of the West Lorne C.W.L.,  long-time member of the St. Mary’s Ladies Group, West Lorne and St. Charles C.W.L., Glencoe.   She lovingly made quilts and knitted gifts which are treasured by her family. Although a resident of Canada for more than 65 years, Johanna always kept part of her heart in her beloved Beesd.  Family will receive friends and relatives at DENNING’S OF WEST LORNE, 202 Main Street, West Lorne (519-785-0810) on Tuesday, July 3rd from 7-9 p.m.  Funeral Mass will commence at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at St. Mary’s Parish, 128 Main Street, West Lorne.  Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Johanna’s family wishes to thank the staff at Strathmere Lodge for their kind care and attentiveness.  Condolences online at www.westelginfuneralhome.com
