Obituary of Yvon Prudhomme

On October 15, 2023, surrounded by love and song, Yvon passed from our world.

Born in Sturgeon Falls, he was the oldest of three children born to Yvonne (née Marleau) (2021) and Maurice Prudhomme (1964)

Yvon moved to the London area around 1964 before settling in West Lorne in 1975 with his wife, Mary Staddon (2013). In town, he was known for always having music playing, driving around with Harley in the basket of his bike, and always offering a hand when help was needed. He later moved to London and found love again with Paulette Ratelle (2018) before finally settling in to care for his mom.

He worked at the Ford Talbotville Plant for 31years.  He was an active member of the Union, having taken Ann on her first protest in 1978. He remained active, and had joined his last protest in support of retiree pensions just days before his diagnosis!

In 1985, Yvon’s life changed when he became a friend of Bill W. For the next 38 continuous years, he shared his experience, strength and hope, and helped many others along the way.

Yvon is survived by his loving brother Claude (Heather), and sister Patricia (Wayne) Regehr. Sister-in-law Helen Staddon (Ken 2010), brother-in-law Bill (Ann) Staddon, sister-in-law Margaret Bradley (Steve 2001), as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Lastly, he is survived by his adoring daughter and son-in-law Ann and Chris Watson. Of all his success in life, his ability for being the greatest dad surpasses all. He and Ann were best friends, often bickering, sometimes concocting crazy plans, and always there for each other. Poor Chris could only sit back and pray no one killed each other or got hurt.

Very special thanks are extended to the amazing staff at St Joseph's Hospice London. Special shout out to Rachael and Victor for making our time there extra special.

When asked shortly before his death what his greatest accomplishment was, he replied "giving blood over 100 times".  He went on to say “knowing I was helping someone without any thought of prejudice to race, religion or political belief, that is what I am proud of".  What better explanation is there for a man whose heart was as big as his?

Relatives and friends will be received at DENNING’S OF WEST LORNE, 202 Main Street, West Lorne (519-785-0810), on Friday, October 20th from 4-8 p.m. where the Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m.  Interment will follow in McColl Cemetery.

If desired donations to Canadian Red Cross or St Joseph's Hospice London are appreciated.
